Hey everyone,  thanks for stopping by blog "Martin Lau's Bachata Travel dance Blog". So for those of you who don't know me I got into salsa/bachata back in October 2013 through the University of Sheffield salsa society and will be my 11th year of dancing! In February 2014 I attended the Birmingham University salsa society (DCL - Dance Club Latino) salsa ball. This was my 1st night traveling outside of my hometown to dance and I enjoyed the night so much, it was this event that gave me the passion to travel all across the UK to all the bachata dance events that I travel to today.

In 2015 I found my love for bachata after regularly attending the Monthly bachata - LTP - in Nottingham organised by Sol and Laura (they also organise the famous annual Bachakiz festival in East midlands each summer). In 2017 I finally overcame my fear of flying and took my 1st flight in 8 years ( last time I flown was in 2011) to Madrid, Spain for the world bachata festival which was the biggest event I had seen at the time. I continued traveling across Europe and in 2018 I went to the famous Croatia Summer salsa festival in Rovinji followed by the Croatia summer sensual days in Rovinji in 2019 (this is one of the biggest dance festivals in the world). I have also danced outside of Europe and have attended the Sydney world bachata festival in April 2018 and the Salsa/Bachata festival in Toronto in Canada.

Recently I have attended Barcelona bachata sensual world Congress in January 2023 and January 2024 which is one of the biggest  festivals I have so far seen and really enjoyed as the dance level is so high and this has tempted me to visit Barcelona twice a year to attend the dance festivals there.

On Another note I have visited Athens in September 2022 and December 2023 and have danced at many of the local Bachata nights in Athens. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at the local bachata nights there as Latin dancing formed part of the culture on a night out and felt it was a great experience for a weekend away in another country  to see how Bachata is danced. As well as the great dancing Athens is a great city to visit and explore the prices can be very cheap for food and accommodation in the city which made it a perfect weekend away which didn't break the bank.

So that's a brief history of my dance journey so far and I thought it would be a good idea to set up a regular blog which my followers can see what I have been up to and where I have been dancing bachata recently as well as any future dance events I plan to attend.  I will updating my blog very frequently and reviewing events as I travel across the UK and Europe so keep a lookout on my blog if you are seeking any recommendations on where the best parties are as that is what this website is intended for.
